Visiting Scholars
ARC-GS offers non-stipendiary visiting scholarships to scholars who conduct research related to gender and/or sexuality in the social sciences, specifically anthropology, sociology, political science or geography and developments studies.
We are happy to welcome our 2021-2022 visiting scholars
Robby Davidson ARC-GS will host Robby Davidson as Visiting Scholar during the 2021-2022 academic year. During this period, he will work on the research project "Exporting LGBTI Emancipation? Dutch Movement-Government Collaboration in Transnational LGBTI Advocacy." The Dutch government currently invests a substantial amount money and political capital in supporting the international LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, and intersex) social movement. Dutch government support for the movement has increasingly become a priority in the policy domains of foreign policy, development aid, and human rights.
In pursuing LGBTI policy goals, Dutch government actors work in close cooperation with the oldest operating Dutch LGBTI organization, Federatie COC Nederland, and they collaborate to facilitate the international LGBTI movement. This study makes use of mixed methods to trace the actors involved in, tactics deployed in, arenas engaged in, and consequences of exporting LGBTI emancipation at the crossroads of the following three bodies of literature on LGBTI politics: international advocacy for LGBTI rights as manifestations of neo-colonialism and sexual nationalism, LGBTI rights as human rights, and the use of international relations and transnational advocacy to effect changes in LGBTI rights.
