Research Projects and Collaborations

Amsterdam Research Centre for Gender and Sexuality

ARC-GS seeks to foster a vibrant gender and sexuality research community within the Social Sciences at the UvA. We do not have research funding of our own, rather, we provide a platform for the different kinds of gender and sexuality research that all of our members do. We are, however, eager to engage in research collaborations.

Thanks to a seed grant from the Centre for Urban Studies, ARC-GS and IMES have embarked upon an explorative project entitled Between ‘rapefugees’ and nativist rape threats. A study of the intersection of race, sex, and (representations of) violence in the city. The aim of this research project is to bring questions of violence vis-à-vis migrants and ethnic and racial minorities to bear upon questions of violence against women and sexual minorities. The project runs from 2019 till 2020.

A first closed workshop within the project took place in January 2020.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic these research activities have been interrupted, but will resume in the academic year 2020-2021. Activities will be announced here. If you are interested in joining this project, get in touch.
